Increasing of handling capacity aims at: High tech RMGC to be deployed in Chattogram Port soon

Chattogram Port Authority will deploy newly procured high technology equipped Rail Mounted Gantry Crane (RMGC) for container handling activities in Chattagram Port (CP) from this month.
Chittagong Port authority procured a high tech modern RMGC from China at a cost of Tk.21.80 crores which arrived at port shed recently.
CPA procured the RMGC from Wuxi Huadon Heavy Machinery company Ltd of China at a cost of Tk.21.80 crores.
 This is first ever RMGC in this port beside the existing Tradle Carriers(TC) crane are working since long. Port sources said one RMGC has capacity of double handling capacity than a TC.
Following the introduction of RMGC the present operational will be freed from container handling in ICDs and may be engaged in other operational activities in port yards which may bring the dynamism in operational activities of CP, sources added.
Mentionable that huge numbers of containers are being transported to ICD Dhaka and vice versa and the TCs are used in container handling at rail point with capacity of handling 10 TEUs container per hour.
Sources said, newly procured RMGC will be deployed at Rail point of Chittagong Container Terminal(CCT) aimed at onward transportation to Dhaka ICD with handling capacity of 20 TEUs container per hour.
While contacted CPA chairman Commodore Zulfikar Aziz told The New Nation that Chinese Heavy Machinery Company is manufacturing first ever high tech devised RMGC across the worl and this model of RMGC is first ever introduced in one Chinese seaport.
 Port Chairman further said one RMGC will relieve 3 TCs which may increase the dynamism in Chittagong Port activities.
He also hoped that the container handling equipments in Chittagong Port will be more modernised gradually for global competitiveness in maritime shipping trade.
