A High tech park is going to be set up in the city as necessary process is progressing successfully creating high hopes among all quarters concerned particularly the business icons and ICT experts.
A 37-acre site has been finally selected in Bulanpur area under Rajpara police station, where an IT village and agriculture biotechnology park namely “Varendra Silicon City” is going to be established.
The park will facilitate development of indigenous technological
capability for the development of the local industries that will also help entering foreign markets by exporting state of the art technology products.
The developed infrastructure will facilitate hassle-free industrial
operations.
Besides, the hi-tech park is going to be established in order to establish a world class business environment for targeted high growth industrial sector and new business.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council Ashraful Islam and Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury visited the site on Wednesday to see for themselves its progress.
In order to achieve Digital Bangladesh we have to set up high-tech parks with the latest information technology gadgets, starting with divisional headquarters. Rajshahi is going to get a high-tech park as soon as possible through the best uses of information and communication technologies (ICT), said State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak.
It is expected that a big hi-tech park will be set up here as similar to the Kaliakoir one. With this breakthrough, many big institutions like face book and Google are likely to be built up thereby Bangladesh will be familiarized as role model in the field of capacity building in information and communication technology field.
It is a fact that information technology has been identified as the “thrust sector” for the economy of Bangladesh. In the field of science and technology, it has been realized that significant commitments have to be made to achieve high-level prosperity in near future, he added.
State Minister Shahriar Alam People of the city and its adjacent areas will get privileges of using modern technology in different productive fields including agriculture upon successful completion of the initiation works on the vast tract of land.
Besides, new more avenues of employment especially for the ICT people will be created in this venture.
As per the government decision, the park has provision for attracting foreign companies to set up operations in the country alongside developing indigenous technological capability for the development of the local industries.
In true sense, the park intends to create conducive atmosphere for establishing ICT, engineering, electronics, telecommunication, biotechnology and other related knowledge based industry.
Besides, providing necessary administrative support service to the
potential entrepreneurs interested in investing at the Hi-Tech Park that will ensure electricity, water, sewerage, gas, telephone, internet and other utility services.
Mr Alam added that the hi-tech park is going to be established with a view to achieving a set of specific mission and vision of establishing a world class business environment for targeted high growth industrial sector and new business.
In addition to develop indigenous technological capability for the
development of the local industries the park will help entering into foreign markets by exporting state of the art technology products.
“The hi-tech park will bring massive opportunities to locals in the city and neighbouring areas, as well as modern technology in different practical fields, including agriculture,” said Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi.
“Likewise, it will provide employment for a large number of people in this area, including ICT buffs and professionals,” he said.
“According to the government decision, the purpose behind building a hi-tech park and IT village is to attract foreign companies to invest in Bangladesh’s IT sector, as well as develop home-grown technological capabilities in our developing local industries,” Mejbah added.
Md Muniruzzaman, President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said: “We want to see immediate implementation of the proposed hi-tech park”.
Rajshahi has enormous potentialities of setting of hi-tech park as
Rajshahi University and Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) are creating more than 200 ICT people every year.
Both university and industry can achieve their objectives by utilizing the potentialities.
