Sylhet Bureau :
Police have remanded the woman’s husband Hifzur Rahman, 35, in connection with the murder of a woman and her two children at Gowainghat in Sylhet. He was remanded in court on Sunday.
Police in Sylhet said on Sunday that they have arrested a man over the gruesome killing of his wife and two children in Sylhet.
On Wednesday, police recovered the bodies of 30-year Alema Begum, her son Mizan Ahmed, 10, and daughter Tanisha Akter, 3, with their throats slit at Gowainghat Upazilas Binnakandi village.
The father, Hifzur Rahman, 35, was admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital with severe wounds.
Speaking at a media call on Sunday, Sylhet’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Farid Uddin said that Hifzur was formally arrested on Saturday based on the information gathered.
Police will move the court with a remand petition after the hospital discharges him, he said.
Investigators have concluded that no one entered the house on the night of the incident as there was no sign of a break-in, according to SP Farid Uddin.
Hifzur called three people on the morning of the incident. He told two of them that he was sick and had to be taken to hospital.
Moreover, the crime scene photos show Hifzur lying over his wife and children, but there was soil on his feet, which indicates he had been walking around for a while, said the Sylhet district police chief.
Initial reports from the doctors, who performed the autopsy, said Alema Begum was also five months pregnant, added SP Farid Uddin.
