Staff Reporter :Speakers at a roundtable meeting on Saturday stressed the need for creating awareness among the people to help prevent spreading kidney diseases.They said at least 68 percent of death kidney-related risk can be overcomed through only changing the daily life style of the people and following the habits of walking at least 30 minutes every day, eating sufficient fruits and vegetables, controlling weight and shun smoking.They opined that people could avoid most of their ailment during life-time through following these simple habits.Besides, they have also urged the government to help reduce the prices of medicine and also to lowering the tax to import the imstruments related to curing the critical diseases.They also urged the government to take step to reduce the prices of dialysis for the kidney failure patients at Tk 1,500. Voluntary organisation, Kidney Awareness Monitoring and Prevention Society (KAMPS) organised the roundtable meeting to mark the ensuing ‘World Kidney Day-2016’, styled “Kidney disease & children: Act early to Prevent it” at the VIP Lounge of the National Press Club in city.The roundtable meeting was attended by Chairman of Ganashashthya Kendra, Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury, Chairman of Kidney Foundation, Profesor Dr. Harun-ur-Rashid, President of Bangladesh Renal Association, Profesor Dr. Feroz Khan, Chairman of Paediatric Nephrology Society of Bangladesh, Prof. Dr. Md. Moazzem Hossain, Secretary General of the Paediatric Nephrology Society of Banladesh, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Hanif, Director of the National Institute of Kidney Diseases and Urology, Professor Dr. Nurul Huda Lelin and others. Head of Kidney Department, Lab Aid Specialised Hospital, and Chairman of KAMPS, Professor Dr. MA Samad presented keynote paper in the roundtable meeting.Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury said prices of such medicine is abnormal in Bangladesh whereas people get free dialysis in many developed countries like Taiwan, Iran, Quba etc., although it’s not possible to our government to offer free dialysis but it’s possible to bring its cost down to a reasonable level.Dr. Harun-ur-Rashid said if it is possible to conduct screening and tests of diseases like, Kidney, Diabetes, Heart etc. at the primary Healthcare Centers in the rural areas then it is possible to prevent all these critical diseases in most cases. Dr. Samad said the main objective of observing the World Kidney Day is to aware people across the world about the fear and sufferings of the kidney diseases, detecting kidney disease early and treating the patients and get them accustomed with sound lifestyle.They opined that not through treatment rather the menace of the kidney disease have to reduce by preventing this disease and for this there have no alternative to raising mass awareness among people.
