UNB, Dhaka :
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday called up on people to help the government to properly and speedily implement development projects in their respective areas.
The Prime Minister came up with the call while inaugurating and laying the foundation stones of some 51 projects of various ministries through a videoconferencing from her official residence Ganobhaban.
Reiterating her government’s firm commitment to carry out development activities across the country, Hasina said her government wants to see that there is no poverty in Bangladesh and no one remains here homeless, starves and dies without treatment.
Referring to the inauguration of train services on the second line over Tongi-Bhairab Bazar section, the Prime Minister said her government has a plan to introduce express train service between Dhaka and the port city Chittagong so that people could comfortably travel on this important route faster.
She hoped that the development of train services will get a momentum with the implementation of countrywide various projects. Renewing her commitment to build rail network throughout the country, Hasina said rail communication would be stretched to Barisal and then Kuakata, Payra Sea Port and Mongla Port.
Hasina said, people could now see, feel and enjoy the fruits of development, as the country sees development whenever Awami League assumes office.
Noting that there are a very few countries in the world which are as nice as Bangladesh, she expressed her firm resolve to build it even in a nicer way. Turning to her government’s success in power generation, she said so far some 100 power plants have been built with raising the power coverage to 76 percent while every household would get power connections in phases.
Hasina said, the government eyes to raise power generation capacity to 16000 MW by 2016, 24,000 MW by 2021, 40,000 MW by 2031 and 60,000 MW by 2041. “We’ve already undertaken that mega plan and working to implement this. We seek Doa and support from all so that we could successfully complete these works,” she added.
Mentioning that some 537 bridges have so far been built over the last seven years, Hasina said no other government could build such number of bridges within such a span of time. Inaugurating a water treatment plant in Narayanganj, she urged the Narayanganj city dwellers to exercise austerity in using water.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Qader, PM’s advisers HT Imam, Dr Tawfik-e-Elahi Chowdhury, State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder and senior officials of the ministries were present at Gonobhaban while PM’s principal secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad conducted the programme.
