Leaders of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh on Friday demanded justice for the their fellows who were killed in violence in Chattogram and Brahmanbaria between March 26 and 28 while protesting against the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bangladesh.
Speaking a demonstration on Baitul Mukarrom National Mosque premises in Dhaka after jumma prayers, they also blamed a ruling Awami League lawmaker for instigating violence in Brahmanbaria.
Dhaka city unit Hefazat chief Zunayed Al Habib chaired the demonstration amid deployment of law enforcement agencies in Paltan area with riot gears.
Meanwhile, in a protest rally in Chattogram, leaders of Hefajat-e-Islam demanded withdrawal of cases filed against them and a total of Tk 50 crore in compensation for members who died and were injured during the recent anti-Modi protests. They said the group is not against the government or state but an atheist quarter was trying to pit the government against Hefajat.
They also demanded Tk 40 crore compensation for the deceased who died during their anti-Modi protest and another Tk 10 crore compensation for treatment of the injured.
Hefajat leaders came up with their remarks at a protest rally held after Jumma prayers in front Hathazari Dak bungalow where several top Hefajat leaders including Hefajat Ameer Allama Junayed Babunagari were present.
Addressing the rally, Hefajat Ameer Junayed Babunagari demanded withdrawal of all false cases filed against his leaders and activists across the country.
He said an atheist quarter is trying to damage the good relation between Hefajat and the government by tarnishing the image of Hefajat.
Hefazat had been protesting against Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh. The Indian prime minister visited Bangladesh from March 26 and March 27 to attend concluding ceremony of the 10-day special programme marking the country’s golden jubilee of Independence and birth centenary of Bangladesh’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
