UNB, Sunamganj :
Hefajat-e-Islam followers Wednesday vandalised several Hindu houses in Sunamganj as a Hindu youth had allegedly criticised the party’s Joint Secretary General Maulana Mamunul Haque on social media.
Shalla Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nazmul Huq said several houses in the upazila’s Noagaon village had been attacked.
“Jhumon of Noagaon village made a Facebook
post criticising Hefajat leader Mamunul on Tuesday night,” Nazmul said.
“As the post went viral, police detained Jhumon with the help of locals on the same night.”
The situation is calm now and a large number of law enforcers have been deployed in the area, Vivekananda Majumder Bakul, chairman of Habibpur union in Shalla upazila, told UNB.
