Hefajat-e Islam’s Joint Secretary General and Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish’s Secretary General Mamunul Haque and five others have been sued for secretly attending a mahfil in Cumilla’s Chandina upazila without the administration’s permission.
Police filed the case with Chandina Police Station on December 17, Shamsuddin Mohammad Elias, officer-in-charge of the police station told media on Sunday.
According to the case statement, a two-day mahfil (Islamic conference) was organised on December 15 in Joag Paschimpara area. On the second day of the mahfil, the organisers kept the matter of Mamunul Haque’s visit a secret.
The OC said the accused organised the gathering by hiding information from the administration, defying the government’s ban on public gatherings during the coronavirus pandemic.
Mamunul Haque’s name was not on the posters and banners of the programme. But he joined the meeting and gave a speech.
As such, the organiser of the mahfil Mosharraf Hossain Mahmud has been made accused number one and Hefazat leader Mamunul Haque was made accused number 2.
