Heavy traffic at Paturia ghat ahead of 3-day weekend

Several hundreds of vehicles got stuck in a tailback at Paturia ferry terminal since Thursday night due to the onrush of homebound people ahead of the three-day weekend from Friday.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Cor-poration (BIWTC) sources said over 900 vehicles including passenger buses and trucks remained stranded at Paturia and Daulatdia ghat from Thursday night.
Salam Hossain, BIWTC manager (commerce) of Aricha office said, “The Paturia ferry terminal area has witnessed a rise in vehicles heading southwest since Friday morning. Vehicles have to wait for hours for the ferry to cross the river. There are 17 ferries in this route, but one is not operational due to technical issues.
“A lot of people are heading home because of 3-day weekend including February 21, the International Mother Language Day. We hope that the problem will be solved within this evening.”
