Heat wave pushes up patients of different diseases, including diarrhea, in hospitals across the country.
According to Health Department, the diarrhea patients were the highest in number on Tuesday during this year.
A total 963 diarrhea patients were admitted to different hospitals countrywide on the day. Of the patients, 613 were admitted to ICDDR,B in the city.
The Meteorology Department on Tuesday said that the highest temperature in the country was 34.5 degree Celsius. The officials of the department said the normal temperature is around 30 degree Celsius. They also said the heat wave may remain few more days.
The health officials warned that if the heat wave continues few more days the number of diarrhea affected people may increase further. “On Tuesday, the highest number 963 diarrhea patients were admitted to different hospitals across the country. Of them, 613 were admitted to ICDDR,B in the city.
On Monday, 837 patients were admitted in different hospitals. Of them 559 were admitted to ICDDR,B,” Abdur Rahim, Office Assistant of the Health Department told the New Nation yesterday.
“On normal days there were around 200 diarrhea patients admitted to ICDDR,B. But after starting the heat wave, the number of patients are found above 500 everyday,” said Shamima Aktar, the Senior Staff Nurse of the hospital.
Health officials said comparatively children are the main victims of the heat wave. They are also infecting with various other diseases like stomach disorder and flue due to the heat wave.
