UNB, Dhaka :
The High Court fixed Tuesday for hearing a writ petition seeking its directive on the authorities concerned for providing better treatment to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in jail.
A bench of Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Ahmed Sohel passed the order.
Earlier on September 9, the writ petition was filed stating that Khaleda has been suffering from chronic diseases and so she needs to be taken to a specialized hospital for better treatment.
Six people, including home secretary, Inspector General of Prisons, Dhaka civil surgeon, deputy commissioner, were made respondents.
Meanwhile, on September 16,a medical board, formed by the government, suggested admitting Khaleda to a hospital like Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) where the treatment of all health problems is available though they have found ‘no symptom of any serious disease’ in her.
On February 8 last, a special court here sentenced Khaleda to five years’ rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. Since then she has been kept in Old Dhaka Central Jail.
