Zia Trust cases: Hearing on withdrawal of warrant today

Hearing on two petitions of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for withdrawal of arrest warrant is scheduled to be held today (Wednesday).
Special Judge-3 of Dhaka, Abu Ahmed Jamadar passed the order on Tuesday noon. He will hear the petitions at the makeshift court setup on Dhaka Alia Madrasa premises in city’s Bakshibazar area on Wednesday at 10.30 am.
Earlier on Tuesday, the BNP Chairperson filed two separate petitions seeking a
withdrawal of the arrest warrant issued against her in Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases.
Khaleda Zia’s counsel Advocate Sanaullah Mia filed the petitions with the Bakshibazar make-shift court in city.
On February 25, the same court issued the arrest warrants against three persons including, the BNP Chief. Other two accused are former MP Kazi Salimul Haque and businessman Sharfuddin Ahmed.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed Zia Orphanage Trust graft case in 2009 for embezzlement of over Tk 2.1 crore while the other case was filed in 2011 for abuse of power in creating the other charitable trust.
