Hearing on sedition case against Khaleda now on Aug 10

The Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka on Tuesday deferred the hearing on whether to take cognizance in a sedition case lodged against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for her comment on the number of martyrs of the country’s Liberation War. The new date is August 10.
Judge Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah of the court passed the order granting time to the defence. Khaleda Zia’s counsel Sanaullah Mia filed the time petition seeking time citing illness of the BNP Chief.

Ahmed Mehedi filed the case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka.
On December 21, last year, Khaleda Zia, during her discussion in the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh raised question about the actual number of Liberation War martyrs. “There are controversies as to how many people were martyred during the Liberation War. There are also many books and documents on the controversies,” she said in her speech.
