Hearing on Rony’s fresh remand Wednesday

A Dhaka court yesterday fixed Wednesday to hear on the pleas of the detectives to place Bakhtiar Alam Rony on a 10-day remand in a case filed in connection with the shooting incident in Dilu Road of the city on April 13.
Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Dipok Kumar Das and also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case submitted the petition to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Sunday while the court fixed date for hearing.
Earlier, Police interrogated Rony, who is a son of Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan, from June 9 to 12 after he was placed on a four-day remand. Pinu Khan was made MP for a reserved seat of women. Although, Rony admitted that he shot with his licensed pistol, he is yet to make any confessional statement in the incident.
Meanwhile, Dhaka’s Metropolitan Police Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam disclosed on Friday that the ballistic report suggests, the bullet fired from Rony’s pistol claimed the lives of the two people.
On April 13, Yakub Sikder, driver of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw of the Janakantha and Abdul Halim, a rickshaw-puller received bullet injuries as Rony fired at people indiscriminately. Halim died on April 15, while Yakub succumbed to his injuries on April 23 during treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Hakim’s mother Monowara Begum filed the case with Ramna Model Police Station against unidentified people on April 15. The case was shifted to the DB of Police on May 24. Later, on May 31, detectives arrested Rony the driver of the SUV, Imran Fakir for their alleged involvement with the killing.
