Hearing on graft case against MP Bodi deferred

The Special Judge Court-3 of Dhaka yesterday deferred the hearing in the graft case filed against Awami League MP Abdur Rahman Bodi to November 18.
Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar passed the order in presence of the ruling party lawmaker Bodi elected from Cox’s Bazar-4 constituency. The defence counsel sought time as writ
petition filed on behalf of MP Bodi, challenging the charge framing in the case, is yet to be disposed of in the High Court Division.
On August 21, last year, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lodged the case with Ramna Model Police Station of the capital accusing Bodi of amassing wealth illegally.
As per the First Information Report (FIR) of the case, Bodi submitted his wealth statement to the ACC on February 23, last year, mentioning his and his family’s wealth worth about Tk 5.2 crore. However, the scrutinizing his income tax return, the ACC probe found that he acquired over Tk 16.07 crore in the last five years (2009-2013) and also earned wealth worth about Tk 11 crore illegally.
