Hearing on ccoalmine graft case now on Aug 10

The Special Judge Court-2 of Dhaka on Sunday fixed August 10 as the next date of the hearing of the case filed in connection with Barapukuria coal mine graft, and asked BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to appear in the court physically.

passed the order on Sunday afternoon after hearing. Earlier, the BNP Chief’s lawyer submitted a petition to the court seeking more time. The court decided to hear on charge framing in the case the same day.
On June 12, the court fixed July 24 for hearing on charge framing and asked the nine accused, including Khaleda Zia to appear in the case. Although she was not present in the court on Sunday, her counsel Sanaullah Mia said, she would appear in the court the next date in the two cases including Niko graft case.
The other accused persons are: Khaleda Zia’s former Cabinet colleagues- MK Anwar, M Shamsul Islam, Barrister Aminul Haque, retired Air-Vice Marshal Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and AKM Mosharraf Hossain, and former Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Secretary Nazrul Islam , former Director Moinul Ahsan, Barapukuria Coal Mining Company’s former Director Moinul Ahsan, M Sirajul Islam Chowdhury and Chairman of Hosaf Group Moazzem Hossain. However, Nazrul Islam and Moinul Ahsan secured bail in the case after they surrendered to the court after their previous bail period expired. Khaleda secured permanent bail in the case on January 15, 2012.  
Of the accused in the case, Saifur Rahman and Mannan Bhuiyan died while Nizami and Mujaheed were convicted for their offence against humanity during the War of Liberation of 1971. Meanwhile, their death sentences were also executed. Accused Sirajul Islam is on the run while AKM Mosharraf Hossain is now in the jail in connection with other case.
