Customs officials seized a ‘health-care toy robot’, spying devices and networking equipment from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Monday morning.
The other seized items are: 20 smart watches (with SIM card slots), 10 mini digital cameras and 25 pen cameras, 63 Ethernet Swiss, 25 antennas, 19 base stations and some networking devices, customs official said.
Dr Moinul Khan, Director General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID), said, “About 325-kilogram parcel consisting of 24 cartons was seized in the Airport around 8:00am when it was being released by false declaration saying that those were toys and computer accessories.”
He said that the consignment was temporarily seized outside the airfreight unit while attempts were being made to have it unloaded.
Names of Shah Amanat City Corporation Market and M/S Global Communications
were found as importers in the Bill of Entry while M/S Kum Traders was C&F Agent, , the Customs official said.
The official, however, did not name who the importers of the robot and other devices are.
He also said they found remote control, camera and music box with the robot and it is mainly used in medical services in developed countries.
However, before being used such a healthcare robot requires the approval from the drug administration authorities.
The equipment were imported from China on September 8, he said.
The legal action will be taken as per Customs Act, the DG said.
