It is such a frustrating disappointment to the people that because of the government organised corruption the hospitals cannot be trusted for coronavirus testing or treatment. If RAB and mobile courts have to raid hospitals to find irregularities in hospitals then there will be none not suffering from irregularities of one kind or another.
If the health minister himself is involved in the business of issuing fake corona-free certificates then the situation in hospitals is bound to hopeless. Some irregularities will be found in every hospital. But callous negligence with the lives of the patients is unforgivable and those guilty must be punished.
If the government was anxious to do the right thing then the health minister would have lost his job. But the government itself is based on the power of corruption. So corruption in high places is to be protected.
We are lucky that despite the frustrated situation there are still doctors and health workers who are trying to be helpful in the best way possible. Our appeal to them is to behave equally to every patient. The VIP system has destroyed the general health system.
If RAB and mobile courts continue investigation then almost all the hospitals will be found not adequately prepared or properly maintained for treating the patients. It will also found that many of them resort to corrupt practices which has been successful in making corruption a normal business. No service is available without paying extra. The problem lies with the government. A right government should have sacked the minister for his incompetence. So the whole hospital management suffers from a lack of supervision. When the minister appears to be directly associated with the business of corruption in issuing fake covid-free certificates he could not have any interest in supervising the hospitals. The corruption in the government has corrupted the whole administration of the government. Unless one is corrupt he is not fit to be in the government.
The patients are forced to pay high amounts as the hospitals come up with arbitrary practices to cheat patients with exorbitant bills.
It is unfortunate that the people can’t trust hospitals at this critical corona virus pandemic juncture.
The number of people being tested for coronavirus in Bangladesh has fallen by almost half, Health Officials said on Sunday, in the wake of a huge screening scandal, as per local daily reports. The number of tests carried out daily has fallen from about 18,000 in late June to just over 10,000 in the past two weeks, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.
It isn’t correct to say that the people are shunning virus testing after the fake screening scandal as there are manifold reasons for this happening. The prime mover appears to be the fact that people have got over the initial panic which gripped the country after the news of the virus first hit. So consequently there are fewer calls to the national healthlines and fewer tests being done.
