The High Court on Sunday directed the government to prepare a complete list of language heroes and martyrs and submit it before the High Court in the next six months.
In the order, the court asked the authorities concerned to form a high powered committee, led by the Cultural Affairs Secretary in one month to prepare the list.
The other members of the committee must be persons involved in the language movement or its research.
The government has been asked to submit in two months a plan of the committee and its progress in this regard.
The HC Bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order and issued a rule after hearing a writ petition filed by a Supreme Court lawyer, Ishrat Hasan on February 28 this year.
Advocate Subir Nandi Das appeared in the court on behalf of the writ petitioner while Deputy Attorney General ABM Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar stood for the State.
In the rule, the High Court wanted to know from the respondents to explain in four weeks as to why the government should not be directed to give state honor and proper honorium to the language heroes and martyrs.
Cabinet Secretary, Cultural Affairs Secretary, Information Secretary, Finance Secretary, Director General of Bangla Academy and Director of the International Mother Language Institute have been asked to comply with the rule.
