The High Court on Monday summoned Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigation officer Md Alamgir Hossain to clarify his stance over an alleged unethical benefits during investigation of a case.
The official will have to appear before the court on November 7.
The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice S M Mozibur Rahman passed the order with a ruling after holding hearing on a writ petition filed in this regard.
The court asked the ACC to stop the investigation against the writ petitioners till dispose of the ruling.
Advocate Md Kamal Hossain appeared in the hearing on behalf of the writ petitioners, while deputy attorney general AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state and advocate Asif Hassan appeared for the ACC.
The ACC had started an inquiry against a couple on charge of amassing wealth beyond known source of income and concealing information of assets. But an allegation was raised against ACC Assistant Director Md Alamgir Hossain about taking unethical advantage while investigation was going on.
Then the couple made a written representation to the ACC over the issue, but failed to get any remedy. Finally they moved to the High Court.
According to the case documents, the ACC issued a notice on March 3, 2019, against Md Abdul Quddus Hawlader, registrar of Pirojpur district, and his wife Mahinur Begum on charge of amassing wealth beyond known source of income and concealing information of assets.
Getting no positive response, the ACC filed a case against the couple on October 22 in 2020 with a Dhaka court. ACC Assistant Director Md Alamgir Hossain filed the case on charge of concealing information of Tk 2.47 million and amassing wealth of Tk 9.01 million beyond known source of income.
