The High Court (HC) on Wednesday scraped a rule issued in favor of bail for former Basic Bank official Shipar Ahmed in a graft case. A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice K. M. Hafizul Alam passed the order after holding hearing on the rule.
“The High Court on February 28, 2018, issued a rule asking authorities to explain why it shall not grant him (Shipar) bail. On Wednesday the court canceled the rule, hence scraping his bail plea,” deputy attorney general AKM Amin Uddin said.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on September 21, 2015, filed the case against Shipar, former deputy general manager of Basic Bank, for embezzling Taka 68.81 crore, with Gulshan Police Station.
Prosecution sources said the disgraced bank official is now in jail with 22 graft cases filed against him.
