HC rule over graft allegation in purchasing land for RU

The High Court on Tuesday issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why directives should not be given to probe the graft allegation against the Rajshahi University VC and three others in purchasing a land for constructing a rest house of the university in the capital.

Md Saifur Rahman issued the rule following a writ petition filed by Asaduzzaman, a former student of the university.
Rajshahi University Vice-Chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellor, registrar, treasurer were made respondents to the rule which is returnable in four weeks.
A report over forgery in land procurement for RU rest house in Dhaka was published in various newspapers on March 5. Asaduzzaman filed a writ petition before the court on Tuesday. According to the writ petition, the RU authorities have embezzled Tk 7 crore while procuring a piece of land in Dhaka for RU rest house.
