The High Court on Monday rejected a bail petition filed by suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons Bazlur Rashid in connection with a corruption case filed over amassing Tk 30.8 million beyond the known source of his income.
The HC Bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder passed the order considering that the bail petition was not properly moved. The court heard the petition through virtually.
Advocate Mesbahul Islam Asif appeared in the
hearing on behalf of Bazlur Rashid, while Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Khurshid Alam Khan said that the lawyer of Bazlur prayed to the court not to proceed the petition which was filed earlier. Then the court rejected the bail petition as it was not properly moved, he added.
Earlier on January 29 this year, a division Bench of the High Court also rejected his bail petition and asked the Anti-Corruption Commission to finish the investigation into the case within six months.
The ACC arrested Bazlur Rashid on October 20 last year in the case filed with its Integrated District Office.
According to the case statement, Bazlur signed a contract with Rupayan Housing Estate on April 24, 2018, to buy a 2,981 square foot flat on the first floor of an apartment building in the capital’s Siddeshwari Road. The price of the flat was Tk 30.9 million.
During the interrogation by an ACC team, Bazlur said that he gave Rupayan Housing Estate Tk 30.8 million in six installments. But he could not show any legal source of the money during interrogation by the ACC officials.
