Sylhet Correspondent :
The High Court Sunday questioned the legality of setting up and operation of stone crushing machines in Sylhet.
It issued a rule asking the government to explain in four weeks as to why setting up and running of such machines at different areas of Sylhet sadar, its Companiganj, Goainghat, Jointapur and Kanaighat upazilas should not be declared illegal.
The HC bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo came up with the rule after hearing a writ petition filed by Bangladesh Environment Lawyers Association. The organization submitted the petition seeking necessary order from the HC on the authorities concerned of the government to stop operation of illegal and uncontrolled stone crushing machines at the said areas.
