Make it within 3 months: HC orders to enact draft policy for OTT platforms

The High Court on Monday ordered the authorities concerned for enacting a draft regulation to monitor and operate the over-the-top (OTT) web-based platforms and to collect revenue from the entities
The Information Secretary and the Chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) have been directed to prepare the draft policy and submit it to the court within next three months.
The HC Bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam passed the order after holding hearing on two compliance

reports submitted by BTRC and the police department over the issue.
Writ petitioner advocate Md Tanvir Ahmed appeared in the court in favour of his petition, while Barrister Khandaker Reza-E-Raquib appeared for the BTRC and deputy attorney general Tushar Kanti Roy represented the State.
Barrister Khandaker Reza-E-Raquib said, “The government has already formed a committee headed by the Information Secretary in middle of the last year for supervising and controlling the over-the-top (OTT) web-based platforms and to find a way for revenue collecting from those. The HC has directed the committee to form a draft policy over the issue and to submit it in the court within three months.”
