Staff Reporter :
The High Court on Sunday ordered the authorities concerned to include three persons in the final voter-list prepared for the upcoming elections of the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) to be held on May 22 this year.
The High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after holding hearing on two writ petitions filed in this regard.
Three persons including Ruhul Amin Swapon and Zainal Abedin filed the
writ petitions seeking court directives to include them in the voter-list.
Barrister Akhtar Imam and Barrister Rashna Imam appeared in the court on behalf of the two petitioners, while advocate Abu Taleb represented the BAIRA.
Confirming the news, Barrister Rashna Imam said that the election board of the BAIRA published a draft voter-list on March 25 this year where my clients’ names were mentioned. But the final voter list published on April 6 dropped their names without giving them any opportunity to defend themselves over the issue.
Then the excluded persons filed appeal petitions with the election appeal board of the BAIRA on April 7 this year, but they didn’t give satisfactory solution and then they moved to the High Court, added the lawyer.
Barrister Rashna said another writ petition has also been filed demanding the same for 10 other persons. The High Court may hear the petition today (Monday), she added.
The election will be held on May 22 this year and tomorrow (Tuesday) is the last day of submitting the nomination papers, according to the election schedule. The election commission has published the final voter-list on April 6 this year.
