Shammi murder: HC orders re-investigation by PBI

The High Court (HC) on Wednesday ordered the reinvestigation into the housewife Shamima Laila Shammi murder case by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).
The court also ordered the Principal of Dhaka Medical College to form a three-member team to give opinion on the autopsy
report. The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim passed the order after disposing a rule issued earlier regarding the case.
Shamima Laila Shammi was a housewife, who lived at Kallyanpur of the capital city. On November 5, a national daily published a report on Shammi’s murder.
The published report said, on June 7, Md Alamgir Hossain, a high official of a buying house, killed her wife Shamima Laila Arzuman Khan Shammi with inhuman torture. She was declared dead by the doctors after she was taken to the hospital.
At this, on June 8, Shammi’s brother Farhad Hossain filed a case with the Mirpur Police Station. Then the police arrested Alamgir and his third wife Israt Jahan Mukta.
Investigation officer of this case Md Nowsher Ali, Sub-Inspector of Mirpur Police Station, is slacking with his duty, also said the published report.
Advocate Khurshed Alam Khan brought the news to the attention of the HC bench on November 7. The HC bench summoned the IO of the case to explain his position.
On November 21, the IO of the case appeared in the HC and gave his explanation in this regard and the autopsy doctor did same on December 3. After hearing the two officers, the HC fixed December 6 to pass order in the matter.
