UNB, Dhaka :The High Court on Monday directed the authorities concerned for taking necessary measures to stop illegal selling of liquor and alcohol in the capital’s Gulshan and Banani areas within 48 hours.A division bench of HC comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Mohammad Khasruzzaman passed the order following a petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB).Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Director General and Director of Narcotics Control Department have been made respondents to the order. The court also asked them to submit a progress report in this regard within the next 10 days.Lawyer Manzil Morshed stood for the petitioner. He said, several dailies carried reports over selling of liquor, beer and alcohol in posh areas of Gulshan and Banani without license, giving a rise in anti-social activities.Citing media reports, HRPB filed a writ petition to the court in public interest.
