The High Court has ordered the owner of a Comilla clinic to pay Tk 300,000 in compensation for a woman, whose womb was stitched with the foetus inside.
It has also ordered authorities to take actions against the doctor responsible. The court also said the doctor will not perform any surgery until then.
On Sept 18, Assistant Surgeon Hosne Ara delivered 18-year-old Khadiza Begum’s baby girl at the ‘Life Hospital and Digital Diagnostic Centre’ in Comilla’s Gouripur.
According to media reports, there were two foetuses but the doctor told
patient’s relatives it was a tumour and stitched the womb.
Soon after the surgery, Khadiza started to suffer from complications.
After a month of making rounds to several doctors, an ultrasonogram revealed that what the doctor had identified as a tumour was a foetus.
She was brought to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the doctors performed another surgery and delivered a stillborn baby.
On Oct 29, a High Court bench issued a rule after the media reports caught its attention and summoned the Comilla civil surgeon, the clinic’s owner and the doctor.
