Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka court on Thursday fixed April 22 for submission of a copy of a High Court order in the Ramna Batamul carnage case.
Earlier, on April 2, the Judge of the Second Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka fixed April 10 (Thursday) to submit the same copy.
Meanwhile, defence lawyer Jasim Uddin filed a
time petition for submission of a copy of the order saying that they have already filed an application to the High Court on April 9 and that application is awaiting hearing in the apex court.
After hearing submissions on behalf of the defence and the prosecution, Judge Ruhul Amin granted the time petition and fixed next date for submission of the HC order.
It may be remembered that on March 14 last year, the court recorded depositions of the Investigation Officer (IO) Abu Hena Md Yusuf, when the IO did not include draft map and index as exhibit. Later, the prosecution applied to the court to submit the two left out things when the defence opposed the step vehemently. However, the court granted prayer of the prosecution.
During the traditional celebrations of Bangla New Year 1408 (April 14, 2001), at the capital’s Ramna Batamul, a blast killed 10 people and injured more than 50 others.
Nine of the accused, including Mufti Hannan are now in custody, while remaining five, including Maulana Tajuddin, brother of BNP leader detained Abdus Salam Pintu, are on the run. All 14 accused are known to be operatives of Huji.
