HC issues rule on recounting vote of a Jhenaidah UP polling centre

The High Court (HC) has issued a rule to recount the vote of a defeated union parishad member candidate. The bench of Justice M Moazzem Hossain and Justice Mohammad Badruzzaman issued the rule on Wednesday noon.
The local government ministry secretary, chief election commissioner (CEC), election commissioner (EC), district election officer (DEO), Returning Officer (RO) and the concern presiding officer were the illigants (bibadi) here. The illigants were asked to explain within four weeks.
The court sources said, a defeated ward member of Madhuhati union parishad under Jhenaidah Sadar upazila Mijanur Rahman Mina on June 13 had filed writ with the High Court to recount the vote in his centre. Barister Muntasir Uddin Ahmed and Lawyer Ajit Sheel heared the petition on June 13.
Lawyer Ajit Shill said, the High Court passed order to settle the petition of the petitioner and postponed the gazette of unofficially winning candidate Rabiul Islam until the matter was settled. The lawyer said, there was evidence of winning for the petitioner and he will be ensured justice in the court.
Mention may be made here that the election of ward number 9 of Madhuhati union parishad was held on May 28 where Mijanur Rahman Mina contested as the ward member. On May 31 the candidate submitted allegation to CEC, four ECs, secretary of the EC, RO, District and Upazila election officers.
In the written compliant Mina alleged, presiding officer of the centre AHM Humayun Kabir, a lecturer of Jhenaidah government Keshab Chandra Degree College left the polling centre any how closing the elections. He did not give importance when the polling agent Altaf Hossain requested him recount the vote.
Unofficially winning candidate Rabiul Islam with his symbol Lock (Taala) defeated Minu for two votes. Mijanur Rahman Mina on June 1 met the journalists at Jhenaidah press club where he brought allegation against the presiding officer.
Returning officer of the polling centre also Upazila agriculture officer Khan Mohammad Maniruzzaman and presiding officer AHM Humayun Kabir when contacted said, the process will be furnished as the High Court directives.
