Torching of motorbike: HC grants bail to 23 BNP leaders including Fakhrul

The High Court on Sunday granted anticipatory bail to 23 BNP leaders including its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for eight weeks in two cases filed with Shahbagh Police Station on charge of torching three motorcycles in front of the Supreme Court on December 11.
Other BNP leaders whosecured the anticipatory bail included Mirza Abbas, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdullah Al Noman, Moazzem Hossain Alal, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Fazlul Haque Milan, Shimul Biswas and Shafiul Bari Babu.
The HC also ordered the 23 BNP leaders to surrender before the trial court in connection with the cases after eight weeks.
BNP Vice Chairman Advocate Zainul Abedin and Joint Secretary Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokan got bail from the High Court Bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty.
On the other hand, the High Court bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan granted bail to the rest of the BNP leaders including its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir after hearing separate bail petitions.
The BNP leaders also appeared before the HC Bench for bail.
Advocate Zainul Abedin, Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokan, Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal, Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon and Barrister AKM Ehsanur appeared for the accused petitioners.
Three motorcycles were torched in the Supreme Court area on December 11, a day before the bail hearing of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Charitable Trust case.
Shahbagh police filed two cases against 135 BNP leaders activists on charge of torching three motorcycles.
