Goat snatching: HC directs 6 accused to surrender in two weeks

The High Court on Monday directed the six accused of two cases filed in connection of snatching 212 goats from Mohammadpur area of Dhaka to surrender in the trial court in two weeks.
The High Court bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice S M Kuddus Zaman passed the order after hearing separate bail petitions filed by the accused in the cases.
Advocate Anjuman Ara Begum Munni appeared in the court for the bail petitioners, while Deputy Attorney General A K M Amin Uddin Manik stood for the State.
The six accused are— Jashim, Ratul, Tanveer, Hira, Tonmoy and Pervez.
Earlier on August 19, the same HC bench granted bail for four weeks to the
Mohammadpur thana unit president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in the same cases filed over snatching sacrificial goats before Eid-ul-Azha.
The HC also ordered the BCL leader, Mujahid Azmi Tanna to surrender in the trial court and sought bail.
On August 11, senior warrant officer of Rapid Action Battalion-2 M Farukh Hossain filed the cases with Mohammadpur Police Station against the accused.
According to the case statement, five goat traders brought a total of 212 goats in a truck from Jashore and Jhenaidah to the capital in the morning of August 11 to sell those ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
When they reached Babar Road in Mohammadpur, they were taken to Jahuri Mohalla along with their truck and kept confined to a club there.
Later, a patrol team of RAB rescued the traders along with the truckload of goats.
