Hazratullah Zazai became the first Afghanistan batsman to smash six 6s in an over. The Kabul Zwanan batsman registered the rare feat against Abdullah Mazari in the fourth over of the Afghanistan Premier League clash against Balkh Legends, to join the likes of Garry Sobers, Ravi Shastri, Herschelle Gibbs and Yuvraj Singh in the elite list.
In the process, much like Yuvraj who had raced away to a 12-ball half-century against England after smashing Stuart Broad for six 6s, Zazai achieved the same on Sunday (October 14), becoming the joint fastest to the landmark along with Yuvraj and Chris Gayle.
“It is a proud moment for me,” Zazai said. “It is a very enjoyable moment for me that my name is now linked to so many big names of the game, who are really legends of the game. I am thankful to Almighty Allah for helping me score the 12-ball fifty. I want to keep enjoying my cricket always and will keep striving towards improving my cricket further. It was a surreal moment for me to perform in front of my idol (Chris Gayle). I was just trying to play my natural game and did not in anyway think of outshining anyone.”
Mazari, who was the unfortunate bowler at the receiving end of Zazai’s onslaught, ended up conceding a wide apart from the six 6s and finished with giving away the opposition 37 runs from the over.
Zazai raced away to a 17-ball 62, but couldn’t help his team overhaul the massive 245-run target.
