Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Sunday paid glowing tributes to Suranjit Sengupta, one of the country’s veteran parliamentarians, and recalled his outstanding contribution to non communal politics.
“Suranjit Sengupta was not only a political leader but also a veteran parliamentarian,” he said, speaking at a memorial meeting at Jatiya Press Club here.
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote (BSJ) organized the meeting marking the second death anniversary of former Awami League advisory council member and railways minister Suranjit Sengupta.
Appreciating the checkered political career of Sengupta, Hasan, also the publicity and publication secretary of the ruling party, said his death is an irreparable loss to the country’s political arena.
Referring to his immense contribution to parliamentary democracy, the information minister said the late AL leader had vast knowledge about the Constitution.
Praising Suranjit’s role in realizing rights of the common people, Hasan said he used to practice non-communal progressive politics and believe in democratic norms.
He said Suranjit had political and social courtesy. He knew how to deal with others.
