Hartal in 12 dists for today, tomorrow

Local units of the BNP-led 20-party alliance and its components on Tuesday called separate daylong hartals in 10 districts of Khulna division, and Sylhet and Joypurhat districts for Thursday while in Pabna, Rangpur and Sylhet for Wednesday.
In Khulna, the 20-party combine called a dawn-to-dusk hartal in 10 district of the division for Thursday protesting the ‘confinement’ of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to her office, arrest of their leaders and activists, including BNP chairperson’s advisor Shamsuzzaman Dudu and Shamimur Rahman Shamim, and the filing of ‘false’ cases filed against BNP standing committee member Tariqul Islam.
They also demanded immediate release of their leaders and activists and stopping harassment of the party men.
The announcement was made at the local BNP office at KD Ghosh road in the city on Tuesday.
In Joypurhat, the 20-party alliance called the dawn-to-dusk shutdown in the district for Thursday protesting the ‘confinement’ of Khaleda Zia and the arrest of BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
In Sylhet, district unit Chhatra Shibir called a daylong hartal in the district for Wednesday protesting the arrest of city unit Jamaat ameer Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer. President of city Chhatra Shibir Abdur Razzak announced the hartal.
Meanwhile, a faction of city unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) will enforce a daylong hartal in the district on Thursday protesting the ‘confinement’ of Khaleda Zia and the filing of sedition case against Tarique Rahman.
In Pabna, the 20-party combine and district JCD called a daylong hartal for Wednesday protesting the arrest of 50 leaders and activists, including district unit Jamaat ameer Abdur Rahim, during the countrywide transport blockade on Tuesday. Member secretary of the 20-party alliance Habibur Rahman Habib announced the shutdown at a press release.
In Rangpur, BNP’s associate bodies called a dawn-to-dusk shutdown in the district for Wednesday protesting the ‘confinement’ of the BNP chairperson and arrest of the party leaders and activists. Rahis Ahmed, president of district unit Jubo Dal, announced the shutdown at a press briefing in the city on Tuesday.
