Sheikh Arif Bulbon :
Today is the birthday of legendary singer of the subcontinent Runa Laila. She will turn 70 today. The singer will pass the day along with her family delightfully, according to this famous singer. After passing two years at home due to corona pandemic, Runa Laila will go to London on November 19 to meet her daughter and two grandchildren. Before going there, she is very much excited in this regard.
While talking about her birthday and achievements of her life Runa Laila said, “When birthday comes I remember my birthdays during childhood. I also remember my parents. Now there is nothing to be arranged on the occasion of my birthday. I try to make the day specialised at home. I pass time with my family members. I am grateful to Allah because I got many things in my life, Alhamdulillah. In fact, I have nothing to get now. I have fulfilled my life with many fames and loves from all, Alhamdulillah. Now I want to create some tunes which will be rendered in voices of the singers of new generation. Everybody prays for me as May Allah keep me well and also keep members of my family well.”
Runa Laila rendered more than 10 thousands songs in 17 languages. She got many national awards including Independence Award.
Runa Laila said that during childhood, she wanted to be a dancer not a singer. She learned Bharatnatyam, Kothakoli, Kathak dances at Bulbul Lalitakala Academy in Karachi, Pakistan for four years in a row. But later she remained in music. She started her 57 years long career in music to render a song for 12 years old boy. In 1964, she first lent her voice for play-back song in Pakistani movie Jugnu after getting permission from her father Syed Mohammad Emdad Ali. During that time Runa was only 11 and half years old. She received two months training to prepare herself to render the play-back song. She wrote her name in Gunnies Book of World Records to lend her voice for 30 songs (each 10 songs per day) in 3 days under music composition by Pakistani musician Nisar Bazmi in Mumbai in 90s.
Runa Laila will be present in a special interview on Maasranga TV’s morning show, Ranga Sokal today. Ferate Parini was Runa rendered her last solo original song, which was released under the banner of Dhruba Music Station last year. Kabir Bokul wrote lyrics of the song while Runa herself composed its tune. Raja Kaasheff arranged music of the song.
