Commonwealth Chess Championship: Hanif clinches gold in veteran category

Hanif Mollah of Bangladesh clinched the gold medal in the 60-year plus category of the open section in the Commonwealth Chess Championship that concluded in the Indian city of New Delhi on Monday.
After Rani Hamid, Hanif was the 2nd Bangladeshi player to earn the honor in the veteran category securing four points from nine matches.
In the open section, Bangladeshi Grandmaster Abdullah Al Rakib finished 11th securing six points while GM Ziaur Rahman was placed 20th, country’s first GM Niaz Murshed became 21st and GM Enamul Hossain Razib finished 25th securing six points each from nine matches.
Bangladeshi Fide Master Taibur Rahman was placed 47th and Woman International Master Shamima Akhter Lisa finished 49th bagging five points each from nine matches.
WIM Rani Hamid finished 99th and Woman Fide Master Sharmin Sultana Shirin was placed 101st collecting three points each.
In the boys’ Under-8 open section, Monon Reza Neer of Bangladesh won the silver medal collecting five points from seven matches.
Besides, Bangladeshi Fide Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman finished 4th in Under-14 open group securing five points from seven matches while Tahsin Tawar Zia also finished 4th in the Under-12 open group, collecting five points from seven encounters.
