Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda today urged the members of electoral enquiry committees to be visible and vibrant for exercising neutrality judiciously in order to gain people’s trust.
“When people will come to know you, then you will be given responsibilities,” the CEC said.
“The Election Commission has already started receiving many complaints, including violation of election code of conducts by the candidates,” the CEC said while addressing a workshop of Election Inquiry Committee at Nirbahcan Bhaban in city’s Agargaon area. “You have to consider all candidates’ complaints equally,” the CEC told the members of electoral inquiry committees.
The Election Commission has constituted the Electoral Inquiry Committee coordination with judges in every district. The committees have been given the responsibility of exercising judicial process during the election period.
Nurul Huda said, “You are not visible yet. When you will be visible to people, everyone will know about you and then they won’t have to come to the commission.”
Among others, four election commissioners and the EC secretary also spoke at the programme.
In a circular on November 26, the EC said 122 electoral enquiry committees, consisting of judicial officers, had been formed to ensure prevention and control of pre-polls irregularities.
Each committee has been constituted with two members.
The committees, on the basis of allegations, will look into the irregularities and make recommendations to the EC for taking necessary actions.
