Marine Fisheries ex-Cadet Association observed half -day strike demanding arrest of killers of Sailor Alok Miah and exemplary punishment.
The decision of half day strike in the fishing trawlers was taken in the protest meeting held at Chittagong Central Shaheed Minar premises in city on Thursday evening.
The speakers in the meeting said despite passing of 12 days of murder of Alok Miah, police as yet could not the prime accused in the murder Maji Abdul Mannan and his accomplice Jasim.
Commotion and discontent is prevailing among the sailors of the fishing trawlers till the arrest of the killers.
The speakers further said if the administration fails to apprehend the killers of the sailor Alok, they will enforce indefinite strike in the sector.
Captain Kamrul Hasan presided over the protest meeting.
Mentionable that Sailor Alok Miah was killed by a gang of boat maji(driver) following the altercation while he crossing the river by boat from Karnaphuli Sea Resources terminal on July 27 last.
Coast guard recovered the body of Alok Miah from Shah Amanat bridge ghat next day.
A case in connection was lodged with the sadarght thana by the father of the deceased , sources said.
Ex-cadet sources said till the arrest of the killers of Alok Miah, all fishing trawlers will hoist black flags to mourn the death of the sailor, sources said.
