Sylhet Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal on Monday sentenced a youth to death and fined him Tk 10,000 for killing a college girl after raping her in September, 2016.
The tribunal’s special public prosecutor, Kishor Kumar Kar, said that the convict was Ranu Roy, 27, son of Kanu Roy of Jaynagar at Nabiganj municipality area in Habiganj.
The tribunal judge, Md Rezaul Karim, delivered the verdict in presence of the convict, he added.
According to the prosecution story, Ranu had a love affair with the victim, Tanni Roy, 18, a student of Nabiganj Degree College and daughter of Bimal Roy of Shibpasha area of Nabiganj municipality. Tanni went missing on September 17 in 2016. Her father filed a general diary with the police on the same day.
On September 20, the Nabiganj police recovered the decomposed of Tanni from a river in the area,
The police arrested Ranu on October 7 for his suspected involvement in the killing.
Ranu confessed to the Habiganj judicial magistrate court that he murdered Tanni following an altercation.
