Habiganj AB Bank Manager arrested for embezzling Tk 85 lakh

Police have arrested Syed Mahmudul Haque Sohel, a former manager of AB Bank’s Madhabpur branch in Habiganj, on charges of embezzling Tk 85 lakh from a customer’s Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR) account.
Madhabpur police arrested him on Wednesday night from Motijheel in Dhaka with the help of local police.
Mahmudul Haque Sohel is a resident of Mashajan area of Habiganj Sadar Upazila. He is currently working as a Manager at AB Bank’s Habiganj Branch.
Madhabpur police station OC Md Iqbal Hossain confirmed the matter.
He said that in 2013, Mohammad Adil Hossain, a businessman from Madhabpur municipal area, opened an FDR account of Tk 85 lakh at AB Bank Madhabpur branch. At that time Syed Mahmudul Haque was the manager of Madhabpur branch of the Bank. He embezzled the money without depositing it in the bank. Later, Syed Mahmudul Haque was transferred from Madhabpur to Habiganj main branch.
When the businessman went to break the FDR, he saw that he had no money in the bank. In this regard, current manager of AB Bank’s Madhabpur branch Liaquat Ali filed a case against Syed Mahmudul Haque on December 1.
