Gunfight in Lakshmipur: 10 injured

Ten persons, including two members of a local criminal gang and five policemen, received bullet injuries in a “gunfight” with the law enforcers in Lakshmipur’s Chandraganj.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandraganj Police Station Nur Mohammad said: “A team of police raided Chandraganj’s Panchpara village on Wednesday evening, immediately after the Jamaat-Shibir men had exploded some crude bombs in the area.”
“The police held local criminal gang chief Jisan’s mother during the drive as the law enforcers found her
attitude suspicious.”
The OC further said: “Following the detention of Jisan’s mother, the member of Jisan bahini opened fire on the law enforcers that triggered a gunfight around 10pm. Some 400 rounds of bullets were exchanged during the overnight gunfight.”
“Later, the police held five injured aides of Jisan from the spot. Of the five criminals, two received bullet injuries,” he added.
The police said five policemen also sustained injuries during the drive.
The district Police Super Shah Mizan Shafiur said: “The law enforcers conducted the raid to arrest local criminal and the chief of Jisan Bahini. The police opened fire on the gang members for self-defence.”
