Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim reiterated his call to the guardians of young adults to put extra care and watch on their children at home to assist them grow properly.
“Recently we have witnessed how a group of derailed children killed many people and doomed them as well. This is painful and not acceptable. We don’t want its repetition,” the minister said while speaking as the chief guest at a function marking the World Population Day 2016 in the city.
Nasim said the government has been advocating for greater attention from parents to their young adult children as this has been proved crucial not only to prevent youngsters from derailment but also guide them on right direction of their development. The children would become worthy citizen for sure provided proper care from family is ensured, he added. The minister, however, reminded parents not to be harsh on children. Instead, he suggested, for motivating children with love and affection. “We cannot sacrifice our children at the hands of the fanatics and militants,” he said. The minister urged the citizens of this country to show courage to face the ongoing problem in unison and said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself could be an example of overcoming ordeals with courage and strong morale.
Nasim said Bangladesh has been enjoying demographic dividend–increasing numbers of young people and declining fertility-and the birth control programme has great contribution to it. Propaganda based on unsubstantiated ideas against family planning has not been able to be successful though tried by a small section of people through ‘fatwa’.
