Groundnut farmers happy over bumper yield, fair price in Panchagarh

Farmers in the district are happy to see bumper yield and fair price of groundnut this year as per mound groundnut is being sold at Tk 4,000 to 4,200.
DAE office sources said, about 11,795 hectares of land has been brought under groundnut cultivation in all five upazilas in the district with the production target of 24000 metric tonnes of groundnut.
Deputy Director DAE of Panchagarh Md, Rias Uddin told BSS that groundnut cultivation is more lucrative as its cultivation cost is less.
There is no need to give irrigation and fertilizer in groundnut land. About eight to 10 mounds groundnut is produced from one bigha (33 decimal) of land.
Sunil Kumar of Sabuspara village in Debiganj upazila said he had cultivated groundnut in four bighas and got 30 mounds groundnut. He earned a profit of Tk 60,000.
 High land is good for groundnut cultivation. Land of Panchagarh is comparatively high and suitable for cultivation of groundnut.
The DAE has given quality seeds and fertilizers to the farmers free of cost. The DAE has also given modern technology training to the farmers for boosting production.
Commercial banks, including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank , have given short-term easy loan to the farmers for the cultivation of groundnut.
