Govt working for development of agriculture

Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Administration Ministry HN Ashikur Rahman MP has said the present pro-people government has been working relentlessly for development of agriculture and farmers.
“As a result of providing massive government assistance to the agriculture sector and using latest technologies, the farmers have been increasing crop productions to contribute their maximum in enriching national economy and ensuring food security,” he said.
He was addressing inaugural ceremony of 3-day ‘Upazila Agriculture Technology and Fruit Tree Fair-2015’ being organised by Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) and upazila administration at Mithapukur upazila parishad premises on Thursday.
Vice-chancellor of Dinajpur Haji Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University Professor Md. Ruhul Amin, Rangpur unit Chairman of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Rehana Ashikur Rahman, Mithapukur Upazila Chairman Zakir Hossain Sarker addressed the ceremony as the special guests.
Assistant Secretary of the Sub-committee of Awami League (AL) Central Committee Rashek Rahman participated as the main discussant on the occasion presided over by Mithapukur Upazila Nirbahi officer Harun-Ar-Rashid.
Professor Dr Anis Khan and Professor TMT Iqbal of Dinajpur Haji Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University attended the ceremony as the invited guests.
Mithapukur Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Khorshed Alam delivered welcome speech in the inaugural ceremony also addressed by successful Haribhanga mango cultivator Abdus Salam Sarker.
Twenty-six stalls of different fruit tree saplings, fruit trees, fruits, agro-machineries, equipments, technologies and agro-products have been set up in the fair by the private sector nursery owners, farmers, agriculture related departments and NGOs.
The speakers stressed for increasing production of all crops, including cereal crops, and fruits to further boost national economy and ensure national food security, meet nutrition demand, alleviate poverty and achieve self-reliance.
They put emphasis on innovating modern technologies for cultivation of crops and hybrid variety fruits everywhere, including homesteads, through imparting training to farmers, men and women to further increase fruit production. They stressed for ensuring optimum use of cultivable land with adoption of the latest technologies to increase production in agriculture, pisciculture and livestock sectors for attaining sustainable national food security under adverse climatic conditions.
The chief guest asked for innovating high yielding and hybrid varieties of crops and fruits to increase productions round the year to ensure food security and meet nutritional demand of all people.
