Staff Reporter :Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain, the President of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), on Friday said that the government would be toppled after the city corporation elections. The victory of BNP could not be prevented through murder, abduction and mass arrest of its leaders and activists, Mahbub, also an adviser to the BNP Chairperson, said at a discussion. Shikkhok Karmachari Oikya Jote organized the discussion at the Jatiya Press Club on the implementation of the spirit of Liberation War to stop abduction, murder, repression on professionals and snatching of people’s right to vote. The ruling party thought BNP will distract from its main goal with the participation in the city corporation polls, but the 20-party alliance will invigorate its movement through the election campaigns, said the SCBA president. “A mass movement will begin with the campaign of city corporation elections. People will forge a strong movement after the election and emerge as winners,” he said. He said, “People will come to the street and return home only after the final victory.””The government can’t prevent BNP’s victory through abduction, murder or persecution to its leaders and activists,” he said, adding: “Had BNP not gone to the elections, the government would say it had become a militant group.” Mahbub also blamed the government for using patrol bomb and spreading propaganda against BNP. “The government was involved in patrol bomb attacks and tried to put the blame on BNP and 20-party alliance for that,” he added.”On the other hand, hundreds of people are being killed through extra judicial killings. Many people are also maimed. A large number of people were abducted like the BNP leaders Salahuddin Ahmed and Ilias Ali. But these news cannot be telecast on television,” he said. “One day the present government will have to face trial for such activities. The people of Bangladesh are very conscious. They will not forgive the government,” Mahbub said, adding that like some previous governments, the present government also could not stay in power through oppression.Among others, journalist Ruhul Amil Gazi, Dr AZM Zahid Hossain. Advocate Sanaullah Mia and Rafiqul Islam Bachchu also spoke at the discussion, presided over by Additional Secretary General of Shikkhok Karmachari Oikya Jote Mohamamd Zakir Hossain.
