Commodore (Retd.) Jobayer Ahmed, President of Chattogram Port Development and Research Council, has requested the Technical Committee of the Port Development and Research Council to submit a thematic research report on port development.
He made the request at a meeting of the Chattogram Port Development and Research Council (CPDRC) at City Corporation’s KB Abdus Sattar auditorium on Saturday (December 26). Jobayer Ahmed said that in the near future, the port of Chattogram will be one of the major hubs for handling cargo trade in Southeast Asia due to its geographical location. For this, the government has to take urgent developmental steps to handle the national and international cargo container handling of the port and increase the economic growth of the country. He opined that as per the Chattogram Port Ordinance 1976, the port of chattogram can carry out the development activities of the port by meeting the expenses of the port with its own money. Hossain Babul, a former member of the Port Authority (Planning and Admin), was requested to prepare a report on the future plans of the port and submit it to the council.
