Govt to spend Tk 805 cr for free textbooks of 2016

The government would spend Taka 805 crore for printing and distribution of primary, secondary, ibtedati, dakhil and vocational textbooks of 2016.
Chairman of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) Professor Narayan Chandra Paul told BSS and added that the books would be distributed through a book festival on January 2, 2016. NCTB is entrusted with the printing and distribution of books.
He further said that 33 crore 45 lakh 18 thousand 635 books would be printed for three crore 91 lakh 94 thousand 903 students covering 291 subjects for the next academic year.
He said that because of the government’s free book distribution program progress in the education sector had been tremendous. For instance, he said, “Participation at the primary level was almost universal. Besides, the rate of drop-outs was at an all time low.”
The chairman was optimistic that if the current rate of progress is continued the goal of universal education coverage at the national level would be attained.
