Govt to shift 80,000 more Rohingyas to Bhashan Char

As the government is set to shift 80,000 more Rohingyas to Bhashan Char soon, it has sought more active role of the international community to ensure all fundamental rights, including livable accommodation for the forcibly displaced Myanmar people.
A total of 18,000 Rohingyas were earlier shifted there from the camps in Cox’s Bazar.
Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus made the call to the global community today at a meeting on Rohingya issue with ambassadors and high commissioners of different countries, including the USA, the UK, Japan, Australia, France, Canada and Netherlands and heads of delegations of various international organizations, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the European Union (EU) at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) here.
PM’s Deputy Press Secretary KM Shakhawat Moon confirmed the BSS of the matter.
The meeting, presided over by Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, was informed that the government has taken initiatives to shift 80,000 more Rohingyas staying at various camps in Cox’s Bazar to Bhashan Char within the shortest possible time.
At the meeting, the Principal Secretary said that the environment developed by the government at Bhashan Char to relocate the Rohingyas, is being praised by international communities and assured of doing everything possible to ensure every basic need for the Rohingyas that included livable accommodation.
PMO Secretary Md Tofazzel Hossain Miah and secretaries concerned attended the meeting.
UNB adds: The government on Sunday called on the international organisations including the UNHCR to be more active to ensure all inhabitable arrangements and fundamental rights for the Rohingya people forcibly displaced from Myanmar.
Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus made the call at a meeting with Ambassadors, High Commissioners and Heads of delegations of various international organizations held at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Dr Ahmad Kaikaus presided over the meeting that was convened to discuss the issue of Rohingya issue, deputy press secretary to the Prime Minister KM Shakhawat Moon said.
The meeting was informed that the government has taken initiative to shift more 80,000 Rohingyas staying at various camps in Cox’s Bazar to Bhashanchar within the shortest possible time.
In this regard, the meeting was also informed that more than 18,000 Rohingyas have already been taken to Bhashanchar, while process are on to shift more Rohingyas soon.
At the meeting, the principal secretary said that the government is doing everything possible to ensure all basic needs of the Rohingyas including better liveable places for them. PMO Secretary Tofazzal Hossain Miah and Secretaries concerned attended the meeting.
Besides, Ambassadors and High Commissioners of various countries including USA, UK, Japan, Australia, France, Canada and the Netherlands as well as Heads of delegations of international organisations like European Union and UNHCR joined the meeting.
